Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about working with non-diet dietitian for pregnancy, postpartum & beyond
Considering working together?
It’s normal to have questions before starting something new. This page covers some of the ones I’m asked most often so you can get a better sense of what working with a non-diet pregnancy and postpartum dietitian is like.
If your question isn’t here, you’re always welcome to reach out. I’d be glad to hear from you.
Can I use my insurance to pay for services with Nurtured & Well Nutrition?
Yes! I’m proud to be an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna and Harvard Pilgrim insurance plans at this time. Accessible, inclusive care is incredibly important to me and I understand that insurance allows many individuals to receive the care they need and deserve who may not otherwise be financially privileged enough to afford to pay out-of-pocket.

What if Nurtured & Well Nutrition isn’t in network with my insurance provider?
No worries. You can still submit a superbill (basically a receipt for nutrition services) to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on your plan, this could cover up to 100% of the session fee.
Will you help me lose weight after having a baby?
It’s very common to feel pressure to “get your body back” after pregnancy. I don’t provide weight-loss plans or rigid diets, because those often leave new parents more depleted and disconnected. Instead, I’ll support you in exploring where that desire for weight loss comes from, help you nourish your postpartum body so recovery and daily life feel more sustainable, and offer tools for rebuilding trust with yourself around food.
As a non-diet, intuitive eating dietitian specializing in postpartum care, my focus is on your energy, healing, and well-being, not just a number on the scale (for a little more on that, read this).
With that said, I believe in bodily autonomy (your right to make decisions about your body) and whether to actively pursue weight loss, yourself. My role is to give you tools, context, and care so you can make decisions that align with your values and your health, without a side of diet culture.
Can you help me if I don’t have an eating disorder?
Absolutely. Many of my clients don’t have a diagnosed eating disorder. Some are navigating the challenges of pregnancy or postpartum, others are untangling years of food rules, and others simply want to cut through all the noise to find a more peaceful relationship with food and body. If you’re tired of stressing about food, confused about how to approach nutrition realistically, or want support in caring for yourself without restriction or shame, you’re in the right place.
What does body image healing usually look like?
It’s not a straight line, and it’s not about “loving your body every day.” Most often, healing looks like building respect, reducing conflict, and learning new ways to respond when tough body thoughts show up. We might work on noticing and challenging internalized messages, expanding what feels safe and enjoyable in movement or food, and practicing skills that help you live fully even when body image feels hard. Over time, the grip loosens, and there’s more room for presence, joy, and trust.
My doctor told me I need to lose weight for my health. Can you help me with this?
I know it can feel confusing, and sometimes invalidating, to be told that. At Nurtured & Well, we take a different route: instead of focusing on the number on the scale, we focus on the behaviors and patterns that truly move the needle on health — like consistent nourishment, stress support, enjoyable movement, and sleep. We’ll also talk about how to navigate medical settings that may feel weight-focused, so you can advocate for yourself while still tending to your health.
Do you work with people of all backgrounds and identities?
Yes! My practice is grounded in a weight-inclusive, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive approach. I welcome and affirm people across race, size, gender, sexuality, ability, and cultural background. I’m committed to ongoing learning and reflection around equity and inclusion, and I want our work together to feel like a space where your whole self is respected and supported. If you ever feel like I could do better, please let me know.
What happens in a first session?
Our first session is about getting to know you. We’ll talk through your history with food, body image, and health, as well as what’s happening in your life right now. You’ll have plenty of space to share your goals and what you hope to get from our work together. From there, I’ll offer initial reflections and together we’ll decide on a direction that feels supportive — not a rigid plan but a framework that can grow with you.
How long do people usually work with you?
It depends. Some people meet with me for just a few months to get support through a transition like pregnancy or postpartum. Others prefer longer-term work as they unravel years of food rules or body struggles. There’s no set timeline — our pace is guided by your needs, capacity, and goals.
What’s the difference between working with you and following a meal plan?
Where meal plans tell you what to eat, our work together helps you understand your body’s needs and trust yourself to respond to them. Instead of rigid rules or an impersonal menu of recipes, you’ll learn flexible tools and strategies that fit your life, your preferences, and your season of motherhood. Meal planning is often a part of the work, but it’s not the calorie-focused, joy-less version you may be used to. Meal plans are one of the tools that can help you meet your nutrition needs and reconnect to food.
I’ve worked with dietitians before and it didn’t help. How will this be different?
That’s a valid concern. Many nutrition experiences are focused on weight loss, numbers, or strict plans, which often leave people feeling more disconnected. My approach is weight-inclusive, non-diet, and centered on your lived experience through pregnancy, postpartum & beyond. We’ll explore not just what you eat, but the “why” behind your patterns and how food fits into your whole life. My hope is that you leave our work together feeling empowered, educated and like you can trust your body for the rest of your life.
